Toni-Molkerei and OXA are only two clubs that Zurich has lost in the past two years. usgang.ch is taking you on a trip through the past of Zurichs nightlife…

OXA
In 1985 «The Club» was opened on Siewerdtstrasse in Zurich. Only in 1990 the naming was changed into «OXA». Great DJs like Sven Väth or Westbam visited the club during his 28 years of existence – in the middle of Zurich-Oerlikon. Maybe one of the most famous techno- and trance clubs did close its doors in 2013. The location is now occupied by «Sektor 11».

Oxa

Dachkantine
In December 2003 openend, in February 2006 already shut down. Accompanied by nostalgic feelings, most of Zurichs locals remember the legendary club «Dachkantine» and its co-founder Thomas Gilgen. DJ superstars like Ricardo Villalobos or musician Takuya Nakamura played their sets there, while today maybe hundreds of art students visit lessons in there. The last days of «Dachkantine» have been video

Toni-Molkerei
Already before the «Dachkantine», «Toni Molkerei» freshened Kreis 5. The melting point which united music, art, theatre and literature at Foerrlibuckstrasse closed its doors after uncountable parties like «Superfly», «All Killer – No Filler» or «Grand Slam».

Toniareal

Alte Börse
In the middle of Zurichs financial district, at the former «DJ-Mag-Top 100» - location, party labels named «Nasty Trash», «Hiptronic» or «Studio 91» invited party people for
weekly escapades.Of course we’re talking about «Alte Börse». The style of the location was somewhere between «Barbarella», «2001: A Space Odyssey» and «Blade Runner». At New Years Eve (2011 to 2012) all of the guests including the
DJs Smash FX, David Jimenez, Danny Freakazoid, Rolf Imhof, Kapara, Jimi Jules, Cuzzy Cuz and Jay Boogie said goodbye to the club at a fulminant party.

Roxy
Where Lady Hamilton’s Pub invites guests for big celebrations today, the IT club of Zurich used to reside. Back in the 80s «Roxy», its owner Jean-Pierre Grätzer and his resident DJs Zubi, Grisi, Staromat, Stübler, Roby, Orson, Alpha B and many more, made the city feel alive, evening after evening. To everyone’s regret Roxy invited in  2002 for a last dance.

 Roxy-2

Rohstofflager
From 1997 until 2010 the «Rohstofflager» was located at different places in Zurich: Steinfels-Areal, Zurich-Oerlikon or the Milchpulverlager of Toni Areal were only a few bases the «Röschti» was located at. Guests were techno heroes like Jeff Mills or Derrick May. Of course you can find pictures of these good old days in our picture gallery.

Rohstofflager

And no – we haven’t forgotten about all the other former clubs of Zurich like Luv, Sensor, Brut or K5. We miss you too!
